The PBGV Health and Rescue Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the future of our breed. Among our goals are the following:
• To further understanding of health issues that affect PBGVs;
• To support research aimed at reducing the incidence of health issues in the PBGV;
• To fund the rescue of PBGVs when they are neglected or endangered; and
• To educate the PBGV community on the proper care of PBGVs.

All of this is only possible thanks to the generosity of our donors and the volunteers who staff the Foundation Board.

If you require funding for a need that fits our mission, please fill out an application.

Donation to PBGVCA National Specialty Host City

The fierce looking police dog in the photo is K9 Darby. His eyes are focused on a Kong toy with which he is obsessed. That is good because it keeps his mind off of the intriguing PBGVs in front of him, Iceage and puppy Booty. Darby and his handler, Kerrville Officer Jeff Robitaille, came to the March 2025 PBGVCA National to receive the combined Foundation and Club donation to the Kerrville K9 program. Pictured are Laura Liscum, Officer Jeff, Tiffany Cannon, Brianne Weber, and Marina Rose.

Foundation News

The Foundation Takes Aim At Epilepsy
The Health & Rescue Foundation of PBGVCA has teamed up with the AKC Canine Health Foundation to fund a study looking at the prevalence and clinical features of idiopathic epilepsy, a chronic seizure disorder, in PBGVs in North America. The study is being conducted by Dr. Karen Muñana (DVM, MS, DACVIM), a Professor of Veterinary Neurology at NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine and an expert on epilepsy in dogs.

To determine the prevalence of epilepsy in PBGVs in North America, Dr. Muñana is conducting a very simple survey that ALL PBGV owners should complete, regardless of whether you have owned a dog with seizures. The survey asks how many PBGVs you have owned that were born between 2010 and 2024, and how many of these dogs experienced seizures. To get an accurate prevalence, it is critical that YOU answer the survey!

Board of Directors
Are you interested in becoming a member of the Foundation Board of Directors? The Board consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and between three and nine other persons. The term of office is two years beginning on the date of the annual meeting, which coincides with the PBGVCA National Specialty or occurs soon thereafter. Each Director must be a member in good standing of PBGVCA and a U.S. citizen. We ask that persons interested in becoming a Director submit an application, then participate in our conference calls over the course of one year before standing for election. Directors are elected at the annual meeting by majority vote.
